Welcome to the Commercial Driver Training Program Application
Thank you for your interest in our Commerical Driver Training program.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
Applications are accepted and processed in the order they are received.
There are a few requirements you must meet to be added to the wait list:
- Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of classes.
- Must hold a valid driver's license for 12 months or more.
- You are required to have your completed Medical Examiner Certificate prior to the first day of class starting. Failure to provide documentation will result in your application being cancelled and not being able to participate in the courses. The next applicant on the list will be given the opportunity in the courses.
Currently, classes are offered 5 times a year and run for 8 weeks: Twice each in the Fall and Spring and once over the Summer Semester. Visit our Academic Calendar for semester start dates.
STEPS TO APPLY:
Step 1: Apply for Admissions to Yavapai College
Click here to apply for admissions to Yavapai College – This is a free, open, immediate admission application. Once you apply, you will receive an email with your Student ID number (Y#). You will need your Student ID (Y#) to apply for the Commercial Driver Training Program.
Step 2: Complete the CDL Waitlist Form
*Failure to have your completed Medical Examiners Certificate prior the first day of class will result in the cancellation of your application and the next applicant will be offered a seat in the courses.
Step 3: Apply for Financial aid
Complete the Financial Aid application at www.studentaid.gov and fill out the scholarship application form located in the portal under the Students tab and My Financial Aid. Additional information on how to complete the Financial Aid application can be found at www.yc.edu/finaid.
For additional funding opportunities contact NACOG. VA Education Benefits may be applied.
Step 4: Please be patient!
There are limited seats available in the courses. Please do not contact to find out where you are on the waitlist, you will be notified when a space is available for you. Please check your email (including your junk/spam email box) for communication from us.
Once you have been contacted, please respond, and register for courses promptly.
Step 5: Schedule an appointment with a medical provider
Schedule an appointment with a medical provider that preforms DOT Medical Examiners Certificate, this will be an additional cost at your expense (not covered under YC tuition rates). Once you have this, you can proceed with obtaining your CDL Permit. (As it is required before getting the permit)
Step 6: Study for the CDL permit
Go to https://azmvdnow.gov/home, set up an account and download the CDL Handbook to study for the CDL Permit. Pay close attention to sections 1,2,3,5 & 6 in the CDL Handbook. They have questions for each section that you can answer. Once you’re feeling confident, you can go to the MVD office and take the test for your CDL Permit.
When you get your CDL Permit, please send a copy to Doug.Harsh@yc.edu. He will submit for credit for prior learning and this will eliminate you having to take the CDT 250 class as well as put you in position to get into the CDT 255 class earlier because you already have your permit.
