Tai chi is an ancient martial arts system, derived from self-defence and evolved into a meditative, movement art. It is practised by more people than any other martial art. The principles and philosophy can be applied to everything that involves motion. While the benefits of practise are numerous, people often come to t’ai chi to improve balance and acquire a sense of calm. This workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced t’ai chi practioners alike.
This session will cover one of the most iconic sequences of the Yang Family Style, Grasp Sparrow’s Tail, along with some of the history and principles of the art. It will be led by Sifu Pete Voll, assisted by Sifu Arlo Chan and Kasia Voll.
Sifu Voll is the only International Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association, Academy level certified instructor in the State of Arizona. He continues to train with Grandmaster Yang Jun, the current lineage holder of the Yang Family Style, as well as other acknowledged Masters. He and his wife, Kasia, are both international t’ai chi competition judges and co-own and operate the Full Moon Tai Chi School in Prescott (FullMoonTaiChi.org).
Sifu Chan has been practicing tai chi for over 50 years, 25 of which were with Master Mary Chow in Los Angeles. He has been teaching t’ai chi classes via the OLLI Program at Yavapai College since 2019 (https://www.yc.edu/v6/lifelong-learning/olli.html).
This workshop is open to all Yavapai College students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public. Click (here) to register for this unique opportunity to learn about, and experience, the art of t’ai chi.
